Please be aware that
Chicago hotels are generally expensive, even at the low end.
Previous participants have reported that Expedia.com offers
good rates for air & hotel travel packages. Also, many
of these have rooms available through discounters like hotels.com
or priceline.com. Priceline has pretty good maps of the area;
the regions you'll want to look in are the southern end of
"North Michigan Avenue" or the northern end of "South
Michigan Avenue," east of Clark or Dearborn streets.
Lastly, International
House (University of Chicago) offers very affordable dormitory-style
rooms, though it's not within walking distance - you'll need
to drive or take public transportation to get to the Gleacher
Center. Reservations must be made by credit card (Visa/MC
only). For more information, see http://ihouse.uchicago.edu/residency/residency_short.shtml.
For reservations, call 773-753-2270 or send email to I-house-housing@listhost.uchicago.edu.
If you end up at a
location that is not within walking distance, you can consult
the Transit Authority's website at http://www.rtachicago.com
for information on public transportation in the greater
Chicago area.
Chicago is a very
busy place, with conventions and conferences happening all
the time. It is best to arrange your accommodations as early
as possible. You can find out about other events in the city
that may be going on at the same time by visiting the Chicago
Convention & Tourism Bureau's website, http://www.choosechicago.com/smi/calendar.cfm.
Colleagues sometimes
travel together and share a double room to reduce costs. If
you are interested in finding a participant to share a room
with, please contact sales@ssicentral.com
with your preferences (gender, smoking, etc.), with the phrase
"Hotel Sharing" in your subject line. Though we cannot guarantee
that we'll find you someone to share with, we will do our
best to get you in touch with someone else with the same requests.
