Academic and non-academic licenses

  • SSI, Inc. offers academic and non-academic (production and commercial) licenses for its Item Response Theory (IRT) software products (BILOG-MG, IRTPRO, and PARSCALE for Windows).
  • Academic licenses apply to end users that intend to use the software exclusively for academic research (publications in academic journals and papers at academic conferences) and instruction.
  • Non-academic licenses apply to end users that intend to use the software commercially or for assessment.
  • It is possible that an end user at an academic organization needs a non-academic license.

Examples of non-academic end users

  • A professional organization that develops, calibrates, and scores licensing exams for their membership or for other in-house assessments.
  • An organization that contracts with third parties to do test development and test scoring, which is generally done for a fee
  • An organization that develops and maintains item banks and scores subjects in a production environment for internal use or for third parties.

Ordering academic licenses

Academic licenses for IRT software products can be ordered by academic end users with legitimate academic email addresses using the secure shopping cart application.

Non-academic (Production & Commercial) license agreements

SSI, Inc. typically arranges these production license agreements directly with the end user after the end user has provided the following information:

  • the name of the software product
  • the intended use of the software product
  • number of end users
  • number of sites (in the case of 2 or more end users)
  • whether for in-house use only or for third parties as well
  • formal name and address of the entity entering the agreement
  • the operating system
  • special requirements

The specific use is then incorporated in a custom production license agreement or commercial license agreement that has to be accepted by both parties before the software product(s) is delivered.

If you require an IRT production license or an IRT commercial license, please send a quote request, which includes the data listed above, via email to irt@ssicentral.com.
